The dam is shared between two states: Zimbabwe and Zambia

•      Constructed between 1955 and 1959 – costing $480 000 million

•      Total capacity is 180 km3

•      Maximum length is 280 km

•      Maximum water depth: 97 m

•      86 men lost their lives during construction

•      57 000 Tonga people were resettled during construction

•      Operation Noah between 1958-1961 relocated 6 000 big animals to safety

•      130 000 people were evacuated during Operation Noah
